Sculptra™provides an increase in collagen and skin thickness and volume, thereby helping to create a more natural facial appearance in those with facial lipoatrophy.
Q: How many treatments are required? A: Dr. Klein will advise you on the appropriate number of treatment sessions and the amount of Sculptra you will need at each session at your consultation. Patients with severe facial fat loss may require 6 treatment sessions, or more. The maximum amount injected at 1 treatment session is 2 vials (10 cc). Patients who start in their early 30's may only require 1-2 treatments, and/or fewer cc's. Side effects of Sculptra™ may include the delayed appearance of small bumps under the skin in the treated area. Generally these bumps are not visible and may only be noticed when pressing on the treated area. Other side effects may include injection-related events at the site of injection, such as bleeding, tenderness or discomfort, redness, bruising or swelling. Sculptra™ should not be injected while you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area.
Patient results can vary due to age and health status of patient. Exercise and good nutrition are necessary to achieve a good response to Sculptra™. In addition, patience is required. The photos done above were taken approximately 6-9 months after completion of the injections.
Q: Can I do other cosmetic treatments with Sculptra™?
A: Yes and no.
On the same day, BOTOX can be done on a different part of the face.
One week later, after the massage is done, an immediate filler such as Restylane/Captique (hyaluronic acid)or Cosmoplast/Zyplast can be placed in the nasolabilal folds where Sculptra™. That is a way to "have the best of both worlds" - a stimulant of your own collagen (a great antiaging investment) and an immediate result. Some doctors will do them the same day; that is not my preference.
Other procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, Lumiere phototherapy treatments can all be done during the same time frame. I do not recommend putting Sculptra in during the first 3-6 months after a surgical procedure to the face such as blepharoplasty. The skin should be fully healed before placement of Sculptra™.
